Why The Internet Industry Has Bloomed (And How You Can Join In)

Lets talk a little more about the online marketing arena and whether it’s the right one for you…

A) Is The Internet Marketing Niche Really “All That”? Don’t Ask Me…

PriceWaterhouseCooper’s may have a long and rather silly name, but as top research analysts go they pretty much lead the way. According to a research report of theirs that I had the pleasure to read, “Spending on internet marketing and advertising will grow by 20% this year despite the effects of the growing credit crunch.”

So yes, the internet marketing niche really IS all that. I keep saying it, but money follows money – and when you see a spate of four figure product launches all selling out, it tells us something about the financial muscle within this industry. It’s actually a rather strange situation – because look around you, and you’ll see world economies in a state of panic after the banking fallout debacle has finally reached a head, and taken down a lot of innocent industries with it. House prices are crashing and foreclosures and personal debts are at their highest level for decades causing a lot of pain for millions of people. In fact, throw a dart at any page of the Financial Times, and you’ll see gloomy news and forecasts – from the car industry slowing down and shedding jobs to a near standstill within the construction industry as new builds grind to a halt.

So, despite all that, how can the internet marketing niche possibly be on course for a 20% growth in annual sales? It’s simple – the internet is still a fledgling industry, and as an entire WORLD of businesses and individuals come online, they are all buying products and services that help them with one simple thing…How to get targeted traffic to their blogs and sites, and ways to market them online.

There’s more – online marketing is a continually evolving industry which means that yesterday’s marketing techniques may be radically different from today’s. Several years ago, submitting to internet marketing directories was a “must do” technique. Today, it’s not something that most experts would recommend as an essential tactic. 2 Years ago, social marketing was barely heard of as a traffic generation strategy. Today, it’s been brought to the masses. This continual progression means that there is a continual need and demand for new products and services – new software to fill new marketing opportunities – new big ticket courses endorsed by grinning guru’s baring huge teeth and a big thumbs up, and so on. I’ve been in this industry for almost a decade, and it just gets stronger each year, with no apparent end in sight. If anything, it’s going to get even bigger as companies and individuals within the emerging giants (notably India and China) begin to get more involved – there’s a client base of about two billion right there, and I’m quite excited at the prospect of being well placed to serve them. And more importantly, so should you.

B) Just A Little More Research… A Glimpse Into The Numbers On Internet Advertising

I like to watch the overview on the general internet industry like a hawk, it helps me to determine what my own numbers should be. Internet advertising is actually a great barometer on the money flow that’s happening online, and guess what – it’s on course for yet another record year. According to PriceWaterhouseCoopers and IAB, internet advertising has actually doubled over the last 2 years. In fact, it’s achieved four consecutive years of record growth, and for the last full year the industry raked in $21 billion in the US and over $5bn in the UK (forgive me for not checking other countries, I was getting late for dinner).

And who do you think is going to benefit from all this increased internet advertising (for example Google Adsense, Pay Per Lead etc)? Yes – the blog publisher – you and I.

Just understand this – we’re living in economic times when many traditional brick and mortar businesses are failing, or struggling to make ends meet. Yet, in a parallel universe, those of us who choose to penetrate quality niches online and take advantage of the internet’s low business cost base are experiencing record profits. That’s a different discussion for a different day, but you should know that if you’ve ever wanted to get into one of the most vibrant niches available anywhere today without spending anything that will hurt you – what I’ve given you the chance to own is something you should not take lightly.
